New Books in Cuban Studies

The University of Miami’s Cuban Heritage Collection hosts a virtual discussion with Reynaldo Lastre and Nils Longueira Borrego, co-editors of “Memory in Contemporary Cuban Film and Digital Media: Entangled Temporalities.”
The book examines how Cuban filmmakers, journalists, artists, and activists use cinema, digital technologies, and online platforms to revisit the past, recover marginalized or suppressed memories, and challenge established narratives of Cuban history and identity. Through essays addressing independent filmmaking, digital archives, online activism, and emerging forms of media production, the collection explores how Cuba’s evolving media landscape has shaped discussions about historical memory, citizenship, and the legacy of the Cuban Revolution.
Lastre, a visiting assistant professor of Spanish at the College of the Holy Cross, and Longueira Borrego, an assistant professor in the Department of Cinema and Television Arts at California State University, will introduce the book and discuss its central themes.
Paloma Duong, associate professor of Latin American and Media Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will provide commentary, followed by a question-and-answer session with the online audience.
Presentations will be delivered in English and Spanish.
