Chico Pinheiro & Frost Jazz Vocal Ensembles
February 13 @ 7:30 pm

Directors Kate Reid and Maria Quintanilla present a Valentine’s Day jazz concert featuring twice GRAMMY nominated guitarist Chico Pinheiro, in collaboration with Frost Extensions, Jazz Vocal I, and Jazz Vocal II. The program brings together Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, samba, and swing, highlighting ensemble vocals and guitar driven arrangements.
Pinheiro has been recognized by DownBeat as one of the leading voices in contemporary Brazilian jazz. A native of São Paulo, Brazil, he began playing guitar at age six and was working as a professional studio musician by his early teens. His career has since spanned collaborations throughout Brazil and internationally.
His recordings have received consistent critical recognition. Albums including “Meia Noite Meio Dia,” “Chico Pinheiro,” and “NOVA” were named among the top Brazilian albums of their release years by major national publications. His 2010 release “There’s a Storm Inside,” featuring Dianne Reeves and Bob Mintzer, was released in 35 countries and recognized by international music publications as one of the year’s best, earning multiple Latin jazz awards. Pinheiro has also been named a Rising Star Guitarist three times in DownBeat Magazine’s Annual Critics Poll.
