At The Globe, Dogs Have Their Days. At Least On Thursdays.

“It started with a couple of regulars that would come in with their dogs, Winston and Louis,” says Danny Guiteras, co-owner (along with wife Lorraine) of The Globe Café & Bar. “From there it kind of organically developed, you know, and they would routinely come in on Thursdays. So it started to be a Thursday thing with two dogs, then four dogs, six dogs, and here we are today.”

Dogs who visit The Globe on Thursdays on a regular basis have their own bowls, so that they may join their masters in libations. There are also doggie treat to be had, though when you ask Guiteras for a menu he will hand you a card with a master and dog on one side, and the word “Bacon” on the other. “We have people that order off the menu – they’ll order the dog a burger, for example. And there will be an occasional martini being enjoyed [by the dog].”

One of the more recent attendees for the Thursday evening canine happy hour is Dylan, the scrappy hound of author Patrick Alexander and his wife Jude. Besides writing books, Alexander also runs the first tee on the Granada Golf Course next to Bertie’s Bistro (formerly Burger Bob’s). Alexander says that Dylan is the official
bacon inspector for the Bistro. So far, he says, no bacon has been rejected. “That shows you the high quality they have,” he says.
