The Woman’s Club Brings Dentistry to Kids in Need
May 2019
“We have to get the word out,” says Arely Ruiz, president of the Woman’s Club of Coral Gables. “It’s such a well-kept secret. Parents need to know we exist.” What Ruiz is talking about is a children’s dental clinic located within
the Woman’s Club compound of two historic buildings located on East Ponce de Leon Boulevard, a spur off of the main road that bends northeast at Salamanca Avenue. Aligning itself with the national Operation Smile initiative, the Woman’s Club operates a full-fledged dental clinic for underprivileged children. “This is just so important for their early self-esteem,” says Ruiz, who has been president for just over a year and has already added two fundraising events to the annual Masked Ball gala held in February (which raised $45,000): A Mother’s Day Tea this month and a Halloween event in October.
