An Evening with Steven Raichlen

October 22 @ 7:00 pm

Books & Books hosts author, journalist, and television personality Steven Raichlen for a discussion of his new memoir, “Man on Fire,” which chronicles his journey from French literature scholar and freelance writer to internationally recognized barbecue expert and television host.

In the memoir, Raichlen recounts his early career struggles, the success of his bestselling book “The Barbecue! Bible,” and his transition to television following an appearance on “The Today Show.” He also reflects on his friendship with Julia Child, a private grilling session with Howard Stern, and his victory in a barbecue competition against Japan’s Iron Chef. The book includes 25 recipes inspired by his travels, including Baltimore crab cakes, medieval mulled wine, Miami-inspired mango gazpacho, and maple sriracha chicken wings.

A five-time James Beard Award winner and Barbecue Hall of Fame inductee, Raichlen has written 34 books and hosted several PBS cooking programs, including “Project Fire,” “Project Smoke,” “Primal Grill,” and “Planet Barbecue.” His work has taken him to 75 countries across six continents, and his journalism has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Esquire, and GQ.
