Weekend Guided Tours at Merrick House 

In the early days of Coral Gables, George Merrick turned to one of the most recognizable figures of the time to help bring attention to his new city. That story is revisited with a screening of Million Dollar Mermaid, a 1952 film inspired by the life of Annette Kellerman, the swimmer, performer, and cultural figure behind Coral Gables’ mermaid.

Starring Esther Williams, the film follows Kellerman’s journey from a young girl in Australia learning to swim for her health to an international star known for her aquatic performances and bold publicity stunts. The screening will be introduced by Don Slesnick, Australian Honorary Consul, and will conclude with a reception and refreshments on the plaza.
