The Playboy of the Western World
May 29 @ 12:00 pm

National Theatre Live brings a celebrated stage production to the screen with a fresh staging of John Millington Synge’s “The Playboy of the Western World.” Set at the edge of the earth, the story begins when a young man walks into Pegeen Flaherty’s pub claiming to have killed his father. Rather than facing condemnation, Christy Mahon becomes an unlikely local hero, winning hearts and races as he settles into village life. Then a second man arrives and upends everything.
Caitríona McLaughlin, Artistic Director of the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, directs a cast led by Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment), and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) in this riveting story of youth, reinvention, and the stories we tell about ourselves.
The production runs with a 15-minute intermission. The Friday, May 29 screening features open captions.
