The Black Power Mixtape 1967 to 1975 Screening and Panel Discussion
February 28 @ 12:00 pm
This screening of “The Black Power Mixtape 1967 to 1975” will be followed by a panel discussion hosted by filmmaker Dudley Alexis and featuring journalist and community historian Nadege Green.
The documentary draws from 16mm footage filmed by Swedish journalists who traveled to the United States during a period of urban unrest and political transformation. Seeking to document the rise of the Black Power Movement, the filmmakers gained direct access to key figures including Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, Angela Davis, and Eldridge Cleaver. The footage captures interviews and moments that provide historical context to the movement’s leadership, organizing efforts, and public messaging.
The material remained archived in the basement of Swedish Television for decades before being rediscovered. Director Göran Olsson, alongside co producer Danny Glover, assembled the recovered footage into a feature documentary combining archival film, music, and narration to trace the development of the Black Power Movement from 1967 through 1975.
The post film panel will expand on the historical significance of the documentary and its continued relevance.
