Sotto Voce
January 23 @ 7:30 pm

Written and directed by Nilo Cruz, Sotto Voce explores how memory shapes identity and how the past persists across generations. The play centers on a young Jewish Cuban researcher whose fixation on the history of the MS St. Louis leads him to an elderly novelist still marked by a love lost during the voyage.
As their conversations unfold, personal memory and historical record begin to intersect. The story moves between past and present, examining inherited trauma, desire, and the emotional aftermath of displacement and survival. Rather than offering a linear historical account, Sotto Voce focuses on the private consequences of a public tragedy and the ways silence and remembrance coexist.
