Romería

Spanish director Carla Simón’s “Romería” follows Marina, an 18-year-old who travels to the seaside town of Vigo while searching for official documents needed for university. With her mother’s diary in hand, her administrative task leads her to her biological family on the Atlantic coast and uncovers long-buried family secrets.

The autobiographical film stars Llúcia Garcia as Marina, who seeks information about her father and gradually connects with his siblings. As she learns more about her parents’ unconventional life and turbulent past, the film examines family origins, identity, and the ways family connections shape a person’s sense of self.
