Patti Austin & The Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra

January 30 @ 7:30 pm

GRAMMY Award-winning vocalist Patti Austin joins the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra and Big Band for an evening honoring the music of composer and arranger Patrick Williams. The concert focuses on Williams’ wide-ranging body of work across jazz, film, and orchestral music, highlighting his long-standing influence on American music.

Williams received 16 GRAMMY nominations and a Pulitzer Prize nomination for An American Concerto. His compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded by artists including Frank Sinatra, Eddie Daniels, and Tom Scott. Patti Austin was a frequent collaborator, recording several of his works such as the GRAMMY-nominated 52nd and Broadway and selections from Home Suite Home and Sinatraland.

The program is presented in two sets. The first features orchestral works that reflect Williams’ approach to form, rhythm, and texture. The second shifts to big band arrangements, with Austin performing selections associated with her career and her collaborations with Williams. The concert also includes music from “For Ella,” Austin’s album honoring Ella Fitzgerald, showcasing Williams’ arrangements of songs from the Great American Songbook.

Together, the performance offers an overview of Patrick Williams’ musical legacy through the lens of a longtime collaborator, supported by full orchestra and big band ensembles.
