Part of Fuku x Gables Cinema: Y2K Spooky Season Series
October 24 @ 10:00 pm

Coral Gables Art Cinema screens director Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s 2001 Japanese horror film “Pulse” as part of the “Fuku x Gables Cinema: Y2K Spooky Season Series.”
Set in Tokyo at the turn of the millennium, the film follows a group of young people confronting a series of unexplained disappearances, technological malfunctions, and a mysterious website that asks visitors whether they want to meet a ghost. Following the deaths of several friends, three strangers investigate an increasingly deserted city and a forbidden room inside an abandoned construction site, sealed with red packing tape.
Blending supernatural horror with themes of isolation, loneliness, and technology, “Pulse” examines the effects of digital communication on human relationships. Kurosawa’s approach to suspense incorporates atmospheric sound design, psychological tension, and unsettling imagery, drawing comparisons to the work of filmmaker David Lynch.
The screening is part of a collaboration with Fuku, which offers a special cinema takeover menu. Options include the OG Sando ($13.02), featuring crispy brined chicken, Fuku mayo, and pickles on a butter-toasted potato roll; three chicken tenders with Fuku mayo ($13.02); cabbage slaw with pickled Fresno peppers, onions, and celery seed dressing ($5.98); and fingerling potato salad with wasabi honey mustard and Kewpie mayo ($5.98).
