One Book, One U Keynote event with Author Aimee Nezhukumatathil

Author Aimee Nezhukumatathil will discuss her New York Times bestselling book, “World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies,” “Whale Sharks,” and “Other Astonishments,” the University of Miami’s 2026-2027 One Book, One U selection.

In this collection of illustrated essays, Nezhukumatathil draws on her childhood in Kansas, Arizona, New York and Ohio, examining how encounters with the natural world helped her navigate unfamiliar places and understand her identity. Illustrated by Fumi Nakamura, the book explores connections between nature, family, belonging and the author’s experiences growing up with a Filipina mother and Indian father.

The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and a book signing with the author. Free copies of the book will be available while supplies last.
