Museum Exhibit: The Sacred Sawdust Carpet

Join Coral Gables Museum for an Alfombra de Aserrín exhibit on view from March 27 through April 16. The installation presents a traditional sawdust carpet from La Antigua Guatemala, created using dyed sawdust and natural materials.

This art form is associated with Guatemala’s Holy Week traditions and is recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The carpets are created through a collaborative process involving artists and community members and are known for their detailed, temporary designs.
