Miles Davis’s Centennial Revue | Frost Studio Jazz Band

April 15 @ 7:30 pm

Professor Etienne Charles leads the Frost Studio Jazz Band through a century of Miles Davis at Gusman Concert Hall. The program traces Davis’s evolution from his bebop beginnings with Charlie Parker through the cool lyricism of “Kind of Blue,” the orchestral scope of “Sketches of Spain,” the electric experimentation of “Bitches Brew,” and the funk-driven sound of his final band in 1991. The concert marks Davis’s centennial year and covers the full arc of a career that reshaped jazz and popular music from the 1950s through the 1990s.

Etienne Charles is a professor at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. The Frost Studio Jazz Band is an ensemble drawn from the school’s program.
