Joybubbles

October 15 @ 7:30 pm

Director Rachael J. Morrison’s documentary Joybubbles tells the story of a blind boy who discovered in the 1950s that he could manipulate the telephone system by whistling a specific tone. His fascination with telephones led him into an emerging subculture that helped shape early hacking and modern telecommunications. Through archival footage and Joybubbles’ own audio recordings, the film explores his life, his search for connection, and his influence on technology. A 2026 Gotham Week honoree, the film is screening as part of the Gotham Week Honors “Best Film Coming to a Theater Near You” program, in partnership with The Gotham and Art House Convergence. The screening includes open audio description and open captions.
