Ikebana Workshop & Demonstration

Join the Coral Gables Museum for a two-part Ikebana demonstration and hands-on workshop presented as part of Five Senses of Japan, a curated exploration of Japanese culture through multidisciplinary and sensory experiences.

Renowned Ikebana artist Akiko Iwata, joined by her colleague Michiyo Ishii-Sloane, will lead a one-hour live demonstration followed by a one-hour guided workshop. The program offers an introduction to the principles and techniques of Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral design.

During the demonstration, Iwata and Ishii-Sloane will create eight Ikebana arrangements, each paired with handcrafted ceramic vessels curated by James Herring of the Ceramic League.

Workshop participants will be provided with flowers and pots selected for the session and will create their own Ikebana arrangements under the guidance of the artists. Completed arrangements may be taken home at the conclusion of the workshop.
