Honoring Rosewood with Dr. Marvin Dunn
September 20 @ 1:30 pm
Dr. Marvin Dunn and the Miami Center for Racial Justice will present an afternoon at Coral Gables Art Cinema focused on the history and legacy of Rosewood, Florida. Dunn will screen two of his documentary films, “Rosewood” and “Uncovering Rosewood,” followed by a discussion about their historical significance and his ongoing work to establish the Rosewood Historic Park.
The proposed park would preserve two historic sites connected to the 1923 Rosewood Massacre, one of the most significant acts of racial violence in Florida history. Attendees will also have an opportunity to view artifacts from Rosewood.
The event supports the Miami Center for Racial Justice, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing Black history in Florida. Its work includes the Teach the Truth Tours, which bring participants to historic sites connected to racial violence and Black history throughout the state.
