Frost Faculty Composers & Amorsima Trio

The Faculty Composers Concert features the boundary-pushing Amorsima Trio in world premieres by Charles Norman Mason, Lansing McLoskey, Scott Stinson, Shawn Crouch, Dorothy Hindman, and Juraj Kojs.

Formed in 2016, the trio – violinist Mia Detwiler, violist Michael Capone, and cellist Kourtney Newton – reimagines the string-trio tradition through bold commissions and collaborations. Recent projects include 21 miniatures marking Beethoven’s 250th anniversary and performances at the University of Louisville New Music Festival, Mise-En Music Festival, and New Music on the Bayou. Their name, drawn from Xenakis’s Morsima-Amorsima, translates as “that which does not come from fate,” capturing their mission to expand and redefine the trio repertoire.
