Caroling Competition
December 3, 2025 @ 7:00 pm

Now in its 35th year, the Merrick Festival Caroling Competition has grown into one of Coral Gables’ most beloved holiday traditions. The event began in 1987 when the 550 Building debuted its poinsettia tree, creating a festive backdrop for local student choirs. What started with 15 participating schools has expanded to more than 30 middle and high schools across Miami-Dade and Broward counties, bringing over 1,500 young performers to the city each year.
The competition runs from the Wednesday after Thanksgiving through Sunday, with an awards program held the following Tuesday. The event is non-sectarian and showcases seasonal music from a wide range of traditions. Funding includes $25,000 in contributions from 550 Building tenants, local businesses, and municipal partners, along with performance fees provided through a Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs grant to help schools participate.
For those who have never attended, the Caroling Competition offers an impressive display of young talent. The students’ dedication reflects the work of their teachers and the strong music programs within the community
