Bird Day 2026
February 7 @ 11:00 am – 3:00 pm

South Florida families are invited to Bird Day, a free annual festival designed for youth, parents, and educators interested in birds and local ecosystems. Held Saturday, February 7, from 11 am to 3 pm at the Steinberg Nature Center, the afternoon features hands-on activities, games, and educational stations across the wooded grounds.
Programming includes owl pellet dissection, nature journaling and drawing, binocular skill-building, and opportunities to connect with local conservation organizations. The event coincides with peak mid-winter migration, when hundreds of bird species pass through South Florida while traveling between non-breeding grounds in the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico and nesting habitats in North America.
Participants can also attend a workshop on the 2026 Great Backyard Bird Count led by TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza, followed by a guided birding walk through the center’s Tropical Hardwood Hammock and Pine Rockland trails. Self-guided trail exploration and tours of the historic 1932 Doc Thomas House will also be available throughout the day.
