American Doctor

Coral Gables Art Cinema screens “American Doctor” on Sunday, September 13, with two special programs featuring director Poh Si Teng. The 1:30 pm screening is followed by a panel discussion with Teng, registered nurse Rana Mahmoud, attorney Dunia Ibrahim, and South Florida anesthesiologist Dr. Waleed Sayedhamad. Dr. Mohamed Ghumrawi, assistant director of the Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies, moderates the discussion, followed by a reception on the plaza. The cinema currently lists the 1:30 pm program as sold out. 

A second screening begins at 4 pm and is followed by a Q&A with Teng. The 93-minute documentary follows three American physicians of Palestinian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian backgrounds who volunteered in hospitals in Gaza and later brought their advocacy for patients and medical colleagues to Washington. The film is not rated and includes English, Arabic, and Hebrew, with English subtitles. 

Teng is the producer of the Oscar-nominated “St. Louis Superman” and an Emmy-winning executive producer of “Patrice: The Movie.” “American Doctor” is her feature documentary directing debut.
