Books & Books welcomes Hafeez Lakhani for an evening celebrating the release of his debut novel, Abundance. Lakhani will be in conversation with novelist Ivonne Lamazares.
In suburban Miami, sixty-year-old Sakeena, co-owner of a Dunkin’ franchise with her husband Ramzan, has nine months to live unless she agrees to an organ transplant. Thirty years earlier, she left her beloved Rawalpindi for the United States at Ramzan’s urging. Now, grounded in her belief in naseeb, the Muslim notion of destiny, she is determined to live without medical intervention. As her health declines, Ramzan scrambles to reunite their grown children in hopes of changing her mind. But their eldest daughter is consumed by a high-stakes business deal, and their youngest son is living abroad under circumstances that prevent him from returning. Saving their mother will require each of them to reckon with the choices they have made.
