Miccosukee Indigenous Film Festival

The inaugural Miccosukee Indigenous Film Festival takes place over four days at the Cosford Cinema, featuring screenings centered on Indigenous stories, culture, history, identity, and community. The festival opens Friday with an opening ceremony and a screening of “Nunkui.”

Saturday programming begins at 3:00 pm with “The Long Walk: A Dance with Humanities,” “Alligator Alcatraz,” “Kokum Dorothy’s Story: We Can Still Sing and Dance,” and “Waabishki Mashkode-bizhiki” (White Bison). The 5:30 pm block includes “Taxi the Empties,” “Moonbound: An Ancestral Passage,” “Brown Boys,” “Lloyd Hurter,” “Grand Entry,” “Syppyt Suruktar,” and “Your Turn.” “When Fire Turns to Ash” screens at 8:00 pm.

Sunday continues at 3:00 pm with “Reservation Redemption,” “Errol Kinistino: Inspiration and Activism in the Arts,” “Raised by the Canoe,” and “South to Freedom.” The 5:30 pm block features “Ice, Stone, Spirit: Uncovering the Stories of Yellowstone’s First People,” “Seeds We Bury,” “The Boom,” and “Maji-Manidoowaadizi.” “Breakpoint: The Untold Story of the Constitution Express” screens at 8:00 pm.

The festival concludes Monday with a special screening of “Becoming Buffalo,” followed by the award ceremony.
