“Steel Magnolias”

In honor of Dolly Parton, this screening of “Steel Magnolias” follows six women whose lives intersect at a beauty salon in the fictional town of Chinquapin, Louisiana.

The story centers on Shelby, played by Julia Roberts, as she prepares for her wedding while navigating a close relationship with her mother, M’Lynn, played by Sally Field. Dolly Parton stars as Truvy, the owner of the local beauty salon where the women regularly gather.

The group also includes Ouiser, played by Shirley MacLaine; Clairee, played by Olympia Dukakis; and Annelle, played by Daryl Hannah, a new employee at the salon. Through weddings, relationships, family changes, and personal challenges, the film follows the friendships that connect the six women and the role the salon plays in their small Southern community.
