A Berkeley private school seems like the last place you’d expect a crisis. Scones at board meetings, Rumi quotes from the headmaster, decisions made only when everyone agrees –– it’s a community that has thought very hard about how to do things right. Then the mumps shows up.
GableStage presents the regional premiere of “Eureka Day,” Jonathan Spector’s Broadway comedy about what happens when four self-consciously progressive parents are forced to take a stance on the school’s liberal vaccine policy –– and suddenly consensus isn’t so easy. The Daily Beast called it “a comic powder keg,” and it’s easy to see why.
