May 31 @ 10:30 am – 12:30 pm

Discover the fundamentals of beekeeping and the vital role pollinators play in South Florida’s ecosystem at this hands-on introductory workshop. Attendees will learn what it takes to start a backyard apiary, from selecting the right woodenware hive boxes and tools to choosing protective gear and identifying the best pollinator-friendly plants for the garden. All essential equipment will be displayed and explained throughout the session.
The workshop is led by Daniel Calzadilla, founder of Bee Wranglers and a Florida native with deep roots in environmental stewardship and ecological restoration. Daniel holds a BA in Environmental Sciences and Sustainability from FIU and an MS in Agronomy from the University of Florida, and has completed both the Apprentice and Advanced levels of the UF Master Beekeeper Program. Since launching Bee Wranglers in 2019 as a honey bee rescue and relocation service, he has expanded his work to include community education, pollinator advocacy, and habitat-building outreach, logging more than 200 hours of community service in subtropical and tropical wildlife conservation.
