Violinist William Hagen, a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, joins pianist Marina Radiushina for an evening of violin and piano at the Knight Center for Music Innovation in Coral Gables. Hagen has appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and the San Francisco Symphony, and has performed at Wigmore Hall and the Louvre. Radiushina, Artistic Director of the Mainly Mozart Festival, brings what critics have called “rare depth of interpretation and understanding of style” to the partnership.
The program opens with Mozart’s Violin Sonata in A major, K. 305, followed by works by Fritz Kreisler, including his reimagining of Mozart’s “Haffner” Serenade. Korngold’s suite from Much Ado About Nothing adds a theatrical dimension before Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in C minor anchors the evening with Romantic sweep and drama. Saint-Saëns’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso closes the night with Spanish flair and virtuosic brilliance.
