Orchids in Bloom

Orchids in Bloom at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden features more than 150,000 orchids displayed throughout the Garden, including rare species and historic varieties from the American Orchid Society collection. The event includes the Juried Orchid Show hosted by the Orchid Society of Coral Gables, where growers compete for awards. Visitors can browse a marketplace of specialty orchid growers and tropical plants, watch orchid propagation demonstrations at the mobile STEMLab, and learn about the Million Orchid Project Lab, which has already reintroduced more than 700,000 native orchids into Miami’s urban canopy.

The program also includes conservation exhibits, family art activities, and live Polynesian hula and drumming performances. Guests can visit the Wings of the Tropics butterfly exhibit, explore the Children’s Garden, and walk through the only tropical rainforest in the continental United States. Orchids appear throughout the Garden, including the vining vanilla orchid, the plant that produces vanilla beans.

Fairchild is also home to the National Orchid Garden, the American Orchid Society, and the AOS Library Collection, forming one of the largest orchid collections in the world. The living collection supports research, education, and conservation efforts, including the Million Orchid Project, a public initiative focused on restoring native orchids across South Florida.
