One Night in Miami…
February 23 @ 6:00 pm

Set on February 25, 1964, the film centers on the night Cassius Clay, portrayed by Eli Goree, defeated Sonny Liston to claim the World Heavyweight Championship. Later that evening in Miami, Clay, who would soon rename himself Muhammad Ali, gathered with three prominent figures: Malcolm X, played by Kingsley Ben Adir; singer Sam Cooke, portrayed by Leslie Odom Jr.; and football star Jim Brown, played by Aldis Hodge.
Directed by Regina King and written by Kemp Powers, based on his stage play of the same name, the film presents a fictional account of the private meeting. Malcolm X, preparing for a new direction in his activism that would place him at significant personal risk, organizes the gathering in hopes of securing Clay’s support. Over the course of the evening, the four men debate their public influence, personal responsibility, and the expectations placed on them during a pivotal period in the Civil Rights Movement.
More than five decades later, the themes explored in the film, including racial injustice, celebrity, leadership, and social accountability, continue to hold relevance.
Film followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Marvin Dunn (author & historian) and Curb Gardner (CEO, Historic Hampton House).
