Fantastic Symphony | Frost Symphony Orchestra

February 7 @ 7:30 pm

This orchestral program brings together three works that reflect distinct approaches to symphonic writing across the 19th and 20th centuries. The evening opens with Aaron Copland’s “Symphonic Ode,” a work known for its expansive sound and rhythmic drive, written in honor of conductor Serge Koussevitzky. The program continues with Max Bruch’s “Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor,” performed by soloist Haoge Wang. First premiered in 1868, the concerto remains one of the most enduring works in the violin repertoire, recognized for its lyrical themes and expressive finale. The concert concludes with Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie fantastique,” a landmark of Romantic orchestral music that employs a large ensemble and recurring musical ideas to explore an artist’s psychological journey. Together, the program highlights the evolution of orchestral expression across eras and styles.
