February 5 @ 6:30 pm 8:30 pm

Sofonisba Anguissola, widely recognized as the first woman in European art history to achieve international acclaim as a painter, is the focus of this art history lecture. Drawing from “The Holy Family with Saints Anne and John the Baptist” from the Lowe Art Museum collection, Andaleeb Banta, Andrew W. Mellon Senior Curator of Prints and Drawings at the National Gallery of Art, examines Anguissola’s career within the broader context of women’s artistic production in pre modern Europe.
