Silver Screen Mornings – Key Largo 

“Key Largo” (1948) follows Frank McCloud, a World War II veteran who travels to a quiet hotel in the Florida Keys to pay his respects to the family of a fallen friend. Instead of a simple visit, he walks into a tense situation. A group of mobsters, led by the intimidating Johnny Rocco, has taken over the building as a hurricane approaches. What starts as an uneasy encounter turns into a slow rise in pressure, where every silence and every stare matters.

Humphrey Bogart brings a steady, worn presence to McCloud, and Edward G. Robinson plays Rocco with sharp intensity. Claire Trevor delivers one of the film’s most striking performances as Rocco’s vulnerable and alcoholic companion, a role that earned her an Oscar.
