Coral Gables Garden Club and City of Coral Gables to Unveil Xavier Cortada Sculpture

The City of Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Garden Club will unveil “Planting Pollinators,” a new public artwork by Miami artist Xavier Cortada, on Saturday, December 6, at the Coral Gables Library Butterfly Garden.

Commissioned through the City’s Art in Public Places program, the hand-carved and hand-painted ceramic sculpture celebrates the Garden Club’s 100th anniversary. The dedication ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the unveiling and a Flower Force community art activity at 10 am, where attendees can decorate flags and plant wildflowers to support pollinators. At 10:30 am, Cortada will lead an artist talk, “From Object to Action: Social Practice, Public Art, and the Environment,” inside the library.

The event highlights Coral Gables’ commitment to art, ecology, and community engagement, encouraging residents to help protect pollinators and promote environmental stewardship.
