In recognition of José Quiroga’s intellectual legacy and the recent donation of his papers, the Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries presents a colloquium exploring his work and influence.
The program brings together scholars from institutions across the United States and beyond to examine themes central to Quiroga’s career, including Caribbeanness, Afro-Cuban diasporic identities, queer kinship, and literature as a site of discourse. Presenters include Jossianna Arroyo-Martínez (University of Texas at Austin), Daniel Balderston (University of Pittsburgh), María M. Carrión (Emory University), Norge Espinosa (Teatro El Público), Licia Fiol-Matta (New York University), and others.
Organized by the Cuban Heritage Collection and key chairs and institutes at the University of Miami, and co-sponsored by multiple departments and centers across the university, the colloquium underscores Quiroga’s lasting impact on Cuban studies and the future of research made possible by his archival donation.
