SUMMARY:An Evening with Roland Betancourt in conversation with Didier Ghez
DESCRIPTION:Author Roland Betancourt will discuss his new book\, “Disneyland and the Rise of Automation\,” which examines the engineering and technological innovations that helped shape Disneyland during its first three decades of operation. \n\n\n\nThe book explores how Disney engineers adapted technologies originally developed for industrial manufacturing and military applications into theme park attractions. Betancourt traces the development of systems used in rides and exhibits\, including the use of magnetic tape technology in the Enchanted Tiki Room and Programmable Logic Controllers in attractions such as the Matterhorn Bobsleds and Space Mountain. He also examines how these innovations influenced public perceptions of automation during the postwar era and places Disneyland’s technological developments within a broader history of automation\, from factory production systems to artificial intelligence. \n\n\n\nBetancourt is Chancellor’s Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of California\, Irvine\, and a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow. His previous books include “Byzantine Intersectionality: Sexuality\, Gender\, and Race in the Middle Ages” and “Performing the Gospels in Byzantium: Sight\, Sound\, and Space in the Divine Liturgy.” \n\n\n\nThe conversation will be moderated by Didier Ghez\, president of the Hyperion Historical Alliance and author of numerous books on Disney history\, including “Disneyland Paris: From Sketch to Reality\, Disney’s Grand Tour\,” “The Origins of Walt Disney’s True-Life Adventures\,” and the “They Drew as They Pleased series.”

SUMMARY:Frost Chopin Academy & Festival: Apollon Musagète Quartet - “Death and the Maiden”
DESCRIPTION:Image Sourced from events.miami.edu\n\n\n\nThe Frost Chopin Academy & Festival presents the Apollon Musagète Quartet\, a European chamber ensemble known for its performances of classical and contemporary string quartet repertoire. \n\n\n\nThe concert will open with performances by selected participants of the Academy\, who will perform works by Frédéric Chopin. Following the student performances\, the Apollon Musagète Quartet will present a program featuring Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Contrapunctus I” from “The Art of the Fugue” and Franz Schubert’s “String Quartet No. 14 in D Minor\, D. 810\,” commonly known as “Death and the Maiden.” \n\n\n\n“Contrapunctus I” is one of the opening movements from Bach’s “The Art of the Fugue\,” a collection that explores contrapuntal composition and fugue technique. Composed in 1824\, Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” is among the composer’s most frequently performed chamber works and takes its nickname from the second movement’s use of a theme from his earlier song of the same name. \n\n\n\nThe Apollon Musagète Quartet’s residency at the Frost Chopin Academy & Festival is presented in partnership with Friends of Chamber Music of Miami.

SUMMARY:Mainly Mozart Festival 2026: THREE VISIONS OF THE SONATA
DESCRIPTION:Winner of the 2025 Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition\, pianist Saehyun Kim has quickly drawn international attention for the refinement\, color\, and expressive depth of his playing. Praised by Diapason as “an exceptional artist” and by Le Figaro for his “stunning profusion of colors\,” Kim has appeared at major venues in the U.S.\, France\, Austria\, South Korea\, and Japan\, and is currently based in Boston\, where he studies in the Harvard/NEC dual degree program. \n\n\n\nIn this richly contrasted recital\, Kim brings together three masterworks that reveal the piano’s many voices. Schubert’s Sonata in G major\, D. 894 unfolds with spacious lyricism\, serenity\, and quiet nobility. After intermission\, Mozart’s Piano Sonata in B-flat major\, K. 281 offers wit\, elegance\, and youthful brilliance\, before Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor brings the evening to a powerful close — a work of turbulence\, poetry\, and haunting inevitability. \n\n\n\nProgram Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 18 in G Major\, D. 894 Mozart: Piano Sonata No. 3 in B-flat Major\, K. 281 Chopin: Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor\, Op. 35
