SUMMARY:Mindfulness for Inner Resilience Fall 2026
DESCRIPTION:University of Miami Libraries offers a series of 45-minute online mindfulness sessions as part of its Mindfulness and Well-Being Programs. The introductory sessions focus on mindfulness meditation and movement\, with guided practice\, time for reflection and opportunities for participants to ask questions. \n\n\n\nTopics throughout the fall include mindfulness of breathing\, body\, thoughts and emotions\, loving-kindness\, self-compassion\, walking meditation\, equanimity\, creativity\, gratitude and joy. \n\n\n\nMost sessions are led by Kelly Miller\, a Certified Mindfulness Teacher\, Director of Mindfulness and Well-Being Programs and Associate Dean for Learning and Research Services at University of Miami Libraries. Professor Scott Rogers\, director of the University of Miami School of Law’s Mindfulness in Law Program\, will lead a special session on Oct. 7. DESCRIPTION:Nando takes over the turntables for this edition of The Burrow’s Vinyl & Cocktails\, playing selections from his personal record collection. His set moves across soul\, funk\, R&B\, house\, classic rock\, and other genres\, with artists including Sade\, Lenny Kravitz\, and Lauryn Hill among the mix. \n\n\n\nDoors open at 8 pm\, and the salon remains open until 1 am. Guests may arrive at any point during that window with a ticket. Attendance is limited to The Burrow’s seating capacity\, and seating is available on a first come\, first served basis. Because of the club’s communal seating setup\, guests may be asked to share a table. \n\n\n\nThe music is played at a volume intended for listening while still allowing for conversation throughout the evening.

SUMMARY:Orchids Are Easy to Grow\, If You Know How | with Melana Davison
DESCRIPTION:Learn the fundamentals of growing and maintaining orchids in South Florida during this three-session series led by Melana Davison\, an accredited American Orchid Society judge and orchid nursery grower. \n\n\n\nThe classes cover popular orchid varieties and the five essentials of orchid care: light\, water\, air\, food\, and growing medium. Participants will also learn how to identify and prevent common pests and diseases\, with guidance geared toward both beginners and more experienced orchid growers. \n\n\n\nThe series concludes with a hands-on clinic focused on repotting and mounting orchids. Registration includes two orchids for participants to take home\, one to practice repotting and one to practice mounting. \n\n\n\nDavison is co-owner of Jim-N-I Orchids in Homestead and owns The Orchidiva\, an orchid maintenance business serving collections throughout Miami-Dade and South Florida. She has also served as president of the Orchid Society of Coral Gables for 12 years and now serves as vice president. Davison chairs the Orchid Show at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden’s annual Orchid Festival and lectures on orchid cultivation for orchid societies and garden clubs.

SUMMARY: A Morning with Jasmine Izaguirre
DESCRIPTION:Author and educator Jasmine Izaguirre\, founder of the Bee Nice Foundation\, will discuss her children’s book\, “Ofelia the Bee\,” during a free public event. \n\n\n\nThe book introduces young readers to the inner workings of a beehive through the story of Ofelia\, explaining the roles of queen bees\, worker bees\, and drones and how each contributes to the survival of the hive. The story combines scientific information with storytelling to teach children about bees\, pollination\, biodiversity\, and the importance of protecting pollinator habitats. \n\n\n\nIzaguirre founded the Miami-based Bee Nice Foundation\, a nonprofit focused on pollinator education\, native pollinator gardens\, support for local beekeepers and bee rescues\, and community conservation projects. Proceeds from sales of “Ofelia the Bee” support the foundation’s educational and conservation initiatives.
