DESCRIPTION:Kiddos Magazine will celebrate its 13th anniversary with a free back-to-school event on Saturday\, August 1\, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will take place at the Lakeside Patio and Stage at the University of Miami. \n\n\n\nThe family event will feature local exhibitors\, community organizations\, games\, music\, raffles\, goodie bags and live entertainment. Free activities include canvas painting at an art station\, a cooking class with Chef Paolo\, a fashion show\, character appearances\, a life-size LEGO building activity and live performances. \n\n\n\nA1A Behavioral Health will present the Kids Sensory Exploration Station\, which will offer hands-on sensory activities for children. EDFED Credit Union will sponsor the Bright Future Station\, an activity area focused on learning\, education and future goals. \n\n\n\nThe event is free and open to the community\, but Eventbrite registration is required. SUMMARY:Merrick House - Weekend Guided Tours
DESCRIPTION:Image Sourced from CoralGables.com\n\n\n\nExplore the Coral Gables Merrick House\, the childhood home of city founder George Merrick and a landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Docent-guided tours take visitors through 14 rooms while sharing information about the house and the city’s early history. \n\n\n\nVisitors may also walk the 1.3-acre grounds\, which include a historic grotto\, Heritage Garden\, lily pond and wraparound porch. \n\n\n\nTours are offered Saturdays and Sundays at 1 pm\, 2 pm and 3 pm. Reservations are not required\, and admission must be paid in cash. Group tours require at least two weeks’ notice and may be arranged by emailing merrickhouse@coralgables.com. \n\n\n\nPets\, food\, open drinks and strollers are not permitted inside the house. Free parking is available behind the property\, and public restrooms are located onsite.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Andre Frattino
DESCRIPTION:Author and graphic novelist Andre Frattino will discuss the release of his new book\, “We Are Pan\,” during a free event open to the public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase that evening. \n\n\n\nBased on years of research and interviews conducted in and around Miami\, the novel focuses on members of the Pedro Pan community. It follows the experiences of children who left Cuba for Miami before continuing to destinations across the United States\, examining how the journey changed their lives. \n\n\n\nFrattino is an award-winning graphic novelist and a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design and the University of Florida. His previous work includes a graphic adaptation of “A Land Remembered\,” “Tokyo Rose: Zero Hour” and a contribution to Jim Henson’s “The Storyteller: Shapeshifter anthology.”
