DESCRIPTION:Beginning May 1\, Cielo Tejido launches as part of the Giralda Sky\, transforming Giralda Plaza with a suspended installation of handwoven textiles. Created by artisan women from Etzatlán\, Mexico\, the work introduces a canopy of color and pattern across the pedestrian corridor. \n\n\n\nPresented with support from the Consulate of Mexico\, the installation highlights traditional weaving techniques and brings cultural craftsmanship into a public setting. SUMMARY:Breaking the Silence: Cubans' memories of the Civil War in Angola
DESCRIPTION:The Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries presents the first of two spring webinars examining the largely untold stories of Cuba’s military intervention in Angola. \n\n\n\nLate 2025 marked the 50th anniversary of Cuba’s entry into the Angolan conflict\, one of the Cold War’s most significant proxy wars. From 1975 to 1991\, more than 300\,000 Cuban troops — backed by the Soviet Union — supported the MPLA government against rival factions funded by the United States and the invading army of apartheid-era South Africa. Thousands of Cuban educators\, doctors and other professionals also served. Yet the personal toll of that experience\, including trauma\, dislocation and hardship\, has long been overshadowed by official narratives of socialist internationalism. \n\n\n\nThis webinar brings together two voices working to recover those buried histories. Anthropologist Katrin Hansing\, who is completing a book drawn from long-term ethnographic research and interviews with Cuban veterans\, will be in conversation with Lisbon-based Cuban author Karla Suárez\, whose fiction has explored Angola’s lasting impact on Cuban society. A Q&A will follow. The conversation will be conducted in English and Spanish.

SUMMARY:Founders Night | Vol. 1
DESCRIPTION:Founder’s Night is coming to Coral Gables on Thursday\, May 14th\, and it’s not your typical networking event. Host Elizabeth Danielle\, founder of Elizabeth Danielle & Co.\, leads a live founder panel featuring Barbara Safina of GROU\, Isa Bolivar of Fiome\, and Valentina\, franchise owner of Mister 01\, followed by an open Q&A and guided networking prompts designed to get past the small talk. \n\n\n\nLight bites and drinks are compliments of GROU Café. Guests also take home a curated goodie bag with exclusive discounts\, products\, and surprises from partnering brands\, including a complimentary week at Yoga Joint Coral Gables. Professional event photography will be on hand throughout the night.
