SUMMARY:Five Senses of Guatemala
DESCRIPTION:Five Senses of Guatemala is a cultural evening at the Museum that brings the traditions\, sounds\, and flavors of Guatemala to Coral Gables through music\, imagery\, craftsmanship\, and food. \n\n\n\nThe program takes guests through some of Guatemala’s most distinctive cultural expressions. That includes the country’s religious traditions rooted in procession\, sacred art\, and Holy Week observance\, as well as live marimba\, Guatemala’s national instrument. Visual culture is represented through projections throughout the evening\, and guests will have the opportunity to sample traditional Guatemalan food and drink tied to regional identity and celebration. \n\n\n\nThe evening centers on the Museum’s current exhibition\, Alfombra de Aserrín: A Sawdust Carpet from Antigua Guatemala to Coral Gables\, which documents a centuries-old Holy Week tradition from La Antigua Guatemala. The event carries particular significance locally\, as La Antigua Guatemala is one of Coral Gables’ Sister Cities\, a relationship that reflects a long-standing cultural bond between the two communities. \n\n\n\nPresented in collaboration with the City of Coral Gables\, the Consulate General of Guatemala in Miami\, the Municipality of Antigua Guatemala\, and the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT).
